Strait of Hormuz: UKMTO reports four more attacks on ships, including a container vessel

Shipping risk in the Strait of Hormuz is not easing: UKMTO reported four more attacks on commercial ships on 11 October, including a rare strike on a container vessel.

United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) issued four late-time reports of attacks in the Strait of Hormuz on 11 October 2026, involving three tankers and a container ship, according to Seatrade Maritime News. In the container-ship incident a vessel was struck by an unknown projectile during an inbound transit of the Strait, and maritime security firm Vanguard Tech identified the ship as Indian-registered. In the other incidents a crude oil tanker and a product tanker were reported struck by unknown projectiles during outbound transits.

Seatrade reported that at least 18 attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz have been recorded since the beginning of October 2026, and that attacks on container ships remain infrequent because major liner operators keep away from Hormuz transits, with only a limited amount of smaller feeder traffic continuing to operate.

  • Four attacks on 11 October: three tankers and one container ship, per UKMTO late-time reports relayed by Seatrade Maritime News.
  • Rare box-ship strike: the container vessel was hit by an unknown projectile on an inbound transit; Vanguard Tech said it was Indian-registered.
  • Frequency: at least 18 attacks on ships in the Strait since the start of October 2026.
  • Container capacity: mainline operators continue to avoid Hormuz transits, leaving limited feeder capacity for the region.

For buyers moving frozen and chilled cargo into the Gulf, the practical consequence is routing and lead time rather than price alone. Because mainline tonnage is staying out of the Strait, more volume depends on feeder and multi-leg routings, so bookings should be placed earlier, the port of discharge confirmed in writing and documentation kept ready for the gateway actually used.
